What a great result for the girls from Pukekohe Cosmopolitan Club who competed in the Bowls New Zealand Champion of Champions Fours at the weekend.
Sharon Siegruhn and her team of Sheryl Nasey, Sheryl Brownlee and Kathy Steiner made it to the semi- finals of this national competition.
In their first game they beat Waikato 18-9, they won their second game against Hawke's Bay 20-9 and won their third game 15-6 against Canturbury. Having won three games relatively easily they did not have to play thier fourth game as they had already qualified for the play offs. They were really thrilled to have done so well.
After a slow start in their quarter finals game against the team from Nelson, the girls fought their way back to within one point of their opponents going into the last end. What a nail biting end that proved to be. Right up to the final bowl of the match the girls were holding the one shot that would have given them a draw with an extra end to play. A well positioned Pukekohe bowl and a bad decision by the opposing skip saw the girls secure the two points they needed to progress to the semi finals!
Their opponents in the semi finals were Carlton Cornwall. Although the girls played really well they could not match the vastly experiemced team from Carlton Cornwall who went on to win the final against North Harbour.
Well done girls, you have just shown that teams from Counties can compete and do well against anyone. Congratulations!!!
