Great news for Manurewa junior bowls.
On 8th May the Manurewa 1-5 year team, representing Counties Manukau Bowls, took out the Northern Regional Junior interclub competition in winning the Mercedes Cup.
Since 2004 this annual event has been held at the Hikurangi Bowling Cup, competed by the top junior teams from each region.
This years teams were Opononi, Kensington, Manly Glen Eden and Manurewa.
Gwen Lawson, the long standing Hikurangi tournament convener, said that this was the tightest
competition in the 18 years since conception.
Three teams each ended with 21 points (7 wins) with Manurewa having the best for and against differential. Glen Eden from Auckland finished 2nd, with Manly from North Harbour being 3rd.
This is the first time that Manurewa has been successful.
Counties Manukau have only once before won the Mercedes Cup- that was a Papakura team 2011/12.
