Manurewa hit the big time over the weekend

Manurewa hit the big time on the weekend making the final of the National Inter-Centre Bowls 3/5 Competition.

Travelling to Naenae (Wellington) the team left quietly confident that the success during qualifying would put us in with a chance to do well over the finals weekend.

Strong performances through the first 2 rounds against Elmwood (Christchurch) & Blenheim had Manurewa leading the field on Saturday night.

Sunday morning saw a continuation of the great team spirit shining through against Putaruru, with 2 wins from 3 and into the final we went.

Sky Sport covered the final live against Elmwood who proved too strong for the Manurewa team on the day. One of the games went to a tie breaker but unfortunately we lost 3-0.

Although disappointed not winning the National Title on the day there was still some very positive news for the Manurewa side to celebrate. Elmwood already have an entry in the Bowls NZ 3/5 Televised tournament in Oct / Nov so Manurewa as Runners-up have been invited to take the 8th available entry. Great news to have a Counties side in this very prestigious competition which is into its 3rd year and is followed by many people live on Sky Sport.

Special mention from the Manurewa side to thank Bowls Counties Centre, Manurewa Cosmopolitan Club and the many supporters that travelled to Wellington.

Also a note from Manurewa about the Papakura Team winning the Junior final over the weekend at the same venue. To Adam, Lee and Leanne a great performance and we were proud to be there to watch you win. Awesome work.
