Hunua Pair win the 1-5 year tournament

Eleven Teams contested the Centre 1-5 year Pairs at Papakura Bowling Club over the weekend.

Unfortunately, heavy rain on Saturday afternoon reduced to the qualifying to two rounds plus a bye in for some teams made it a short event.

The top eight teams went through to post section with only one two winner, Matt Wesche and Karam Chesham. Terry & Kathy Lister qualified next with a win and bye points. This left eight teams contesting the other six places all with one win each, so net total points decided the final placing to go through to post section.

In the quarter finals Matthew Wesche & Karam Chesham defeated Christine Mason & Ron Chesham (21-8). Rio Bond & David Parker beat Shirley Hodge & Byron Bently (17-16). Chris Quigan & Kevin Hawke beat Wendy Shaddick & Dave Burn (20-7) and Ken Michelsen & Larry Coughy went through over Terry & Kathy Lister (18-17).

The semi-finals saw Wesche/Chesham play Bond & Parker with the former continuing their good form coming through in a tight match 18-16. In the other semi Chris Quigan and Kevin Hawke defeated Ken Michelsen and Larry Coughey 14-13 to set up a Wesche v Quigan final.

For the final we were lucky to have beautiful sunny weather and a great crowd watching.

The score was close for most of the game with Wesche/ Chesham from Hunua Bowling Club taking the win 15- 12 against Quigan/ Hawke from the Manurewa Cosmopolitan Club. Both teams play exceptionally well.

A big thank you to our wonderful umpire Dick Carter and to the team at Papakura Bowling Club, everyone was well looked after.
